Reasons for thinking that free trade will raise the rent of land as well as the profit of capital and the wages of labour and that it would be foolish in the landlords to incur the odium of enacting a corn law to protect the value of their property, when the effect will be the reverse, as any duty which they impose on foreign produce falls ultimately with increased pressure on their own
